How It Happened
Following a scoreless opening seven minutes in which the two sides traded shots on goal, UConn broke through at the 8:13 mark when Carlin Dezainde netted a power-play goal—his fourth of the campaign.
With 9:19 remaining in the first, junior
Anthony Galante generated a turnover at the Huskies' defensive blue line and skated in on a partial breakaway in search of an equalizer. However, a strong defensive stick by UConn broke up the opportunity, keeping the Skyhawks off the board.
In the closing minutes of the period, Stonehill threatened while on the power play as Murphy rang a one-timer off the crossbar, and the Skyhawks headed into the break trailing 1–0.
Just 1:39 into the second, after drawing their third power-play chance of the night, the Skyhawks capitalized on a scramble in front when Lehtinen buried his second goal of the season to level the score at 1–1. UConn responded quickly, restoring its one-goal advantage just 37 seconds later as Kaden Shahan punched home a rebound for his fourth of the year.
After a back-and-forth stretch of play, Stonehill surged ahead before the second intermission. Gibson fired home a shot off the draw at 11:29 to even the score, and Mexico redirected Orr's shot into the back of the net on the power play at 18:51, sending the Skyhawks into the locker room with a 3–2 lead.
Midway through the third, UConn pulled even once more as Dezainde lifted a backhander past Androlewicz for his second of the night, knotting the game at 3–3. The deadlock would hold through the remainder of regulation, sending the contest to overtime.
After a scoreless 3-on-3 extra frame, the teams advanced to a shootout. Senior
Teddy Lagerbäck and junior
Matthew Romer each went top shelf to convert their attempts, while Androlewicz turned away one of the two Huskies shooters to secure a 2–1 shootout victory for Stonehill.
