HARTFORD, Conn. (November 25, 2025) – Despite taking a late third-period lead against the nationally ranked No. 8 Quinnipiac Bobcats, the Stonehill College men's hockey team dropped a narrow 3–2 decision Saturday night at M&T Bank Arena in Hamden, Connecticut.
Highlights
- Juniors Matthew Romer and Dominick Campione lit the lamp on their seventh and first goals of the season, respectively.
- Sophomore Joel Lehtinen and first-year Justin Gibson registered their third and first assists of the year, respectively.
- Graduate student Evan Orr posted a team-high four blocked shots and added three shots on goal.
- Graduate goaltender Connor Androlewicz tallied a season-high 39 saves between the pipes for the Skyhawks.
How It Happened
Quinnipiac wasted little time jumping out to an early advantage, as just 2:38 into the opening frame Markus Vidicek lit the lamp for the first of his two goals on the night, giving the Bobcats a 1–0 lead over the Skyhawks. After a back-and-forth stretch for the remainder of the first period, Quinnipiac carried its one-goal edge into the first intermission.
Despite being outshot 10–5 throughout the second stanza, Androlewicz and the Skyhawk defense held off the Quinnipiac attack—turning aside all 10 shots on goal and blocking seven more—keeping the game within a one-goal margin heading into the third period.
Coming out of the second intermission, Stonehill leveled the score at one apiece just 4:33 into the third when Romer capitalized on a loose puck at the nearside faceoff dot, rifling a shot over the shoulder of Matej Marinov for his team-leading seventh goal of the year. The Skyhawks grabbed their first lead of the contest minutes later when Campione buried his first lamp-lighter of the season.
However, two late tallies from Vidicek (17:02) and Elliot Groenewold (17:33) regained the advantage for Quinnipiac, which held on to secure the 3–2 win over Stonehill.
