Mercyhurst jumped out to an early two-goal lead less than eight minutes into the opening frame, as Maja Alenius (2:31) and Nuutinen (7:42) tallied their second and third goals of the season. Stonehill responded at 9:18 when, following a goaltending turnover below the goal line, Combe capitalized and fired a shot past Luggin for her second goal of the year, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
In the final minute of the first period, the Lakers regained their two-goal cushion when Perjus buried her ninth of the season, sending the game into the intermission with Mercyhurst ahead 3-1.
Caron and the Skyhawks' defense stood tall throughout the second period, turning aside all 14 shots on goal and blocking seven more in the defensive zone to keep the score locked at 3-1 heading into the third.
Mercyhurst opened the final frame with sustained pressure, generating 22 shot attempts—12 on goal—in the first 10 minutes, but Caron continued to hold firm and kept the deficit at two entering the midway point of the period.
