How It Happened
Harvard wasted no time establishing control, netting three goals in the opening period from Ben MacDonald (2:05), Marek Hejduk (9:55), and Tresca (12:19) to take a commanding lead through 20 minutes. Stonehill generated its first power-play opportunity with 2:28 remaining in the frame and maintained strong offensive zone pressure to the horn, but Charette and the Crimson defense turned aside all Skyhawk attempts to cut into the deficit.
An early Harvard tally to start the second period extended the margin, but Stonehill regained momentum following that late first-period power play, outshooting the Crimson 19-4 in the middle frame and cutting the four-goal gap in half by intermission. At 4:34, Orr forced a neutral-zone turnover and chipped the puck ahead to Hunter, who sent a cross-ice feed to Renfrew for his first goal of the season to get the Skyhawks on the board. In the closing seconds of the period, Romer capitalized on a net-front scramble, firing a shot from the boards for his fourth goal of the year and third in the last two games.
Despite narrowly outshooting Harvard again in the third and generating multiple quality scoring chances—including a point-blank look from sophomore
Zachary Aben—the Skyhawks were unable to complete the comeback, eventually falling by a final score of 6-2.
