How It Happened
Northeastern opened the scoring just 5:43 into the contest on the power play when Amine Hajibi and Mathieu connected with Fukakusa for his first goal of the campaign. After killing off a penalty midway through the opening frame, Stonehill generated momentum, outshooting the Huskies 24-12 over the next 30 minutes of regulation while holding Northeastern off the board.
Despite controlling the shot chart during that stretch, the Skyhawks were unable to find the back of the net, entering the final frame trailing 1-0. Coming out of the second intermission, still searching for their first goal, Stonehill continued their offensive push, outshooting Northeastern 12-4 over the first 10 minutes of the third period, including four shots on goal. At the 10:50 mark, the Skyhawks earned their fourth power play of the game, but the Northeastern penalty kill successfully stifled the opportunity, turning the momentum into a goal just over two minutes later.
Vying to cut into their two-goal deficit following Borgesi's goal at 15:05, Stonehill peppered the Northeastern defense with 16 shot attempts over the final five minutes but were unable to score, eventually falling by a final score of 2-0.
