How It Happened
Stonehill wasted no time lighting the lamp in its final game at Matthews Arena, as Romer netted his fifth goal of the season just 58 seconds into the opening frame. Midway through the period, the Skyhawks were forced to kill off a major penalty against a Northeastern power-play unit that had scored three times this season. Stonehill's penalty kill held strong, denying the Huskies skater-advantage and preserving its one-goal lead.
In the final minute of the first, Northeastern evened the score when Amine Hajibi sent a feed from below the goal line to Hryckowian, who buried his fourth goal of the year.
The teams traded power-play goals in the second period, heading to the locker room tied 2-2 after 40 minutes. Martino gave the Huskies their first lead of the game at 13:21 of the frame, before Romer struck again for his second goal of the night with just over 90 seconds remaining in the period.
Northeastern regained the lead 5:59 into the third when Martino notched his second goal of the contest off assists from Tyler Fukakusa and Borgesi. After a back-and-forth remainder of the frame, the Huskies sealed the win with an empty-net goal from Hryckowian at 19:23, his second tally of the night.
