BOSTON, Mass. (November 7, 2025) – The Stonehill College women's ice hockey team earned a decisive 4-1 victory over NEWHA rival Assumption University on Friday night at Warrior Ice Arena in Boston, Massachusetts. With the win, the Skyhawks improved to 5-3-1 overall and 5-1-1 in conference play, while the Greyhounds dropped to 4-6-1 overall and 4-2-1 in NEWHA action.
Highlights
How It Happened
The teams traded quality chances through the opening 10 minutes before Achtyl redirected a Russell shot from the right point to break the deadlock and give Stonehill an early lead. The tally marked Achtyl's seventh goal in the Skyhawks' first nine games of the season. In the final minute of the frame, Stonehill doubled its advantage when Slocum deflected a Whynot point shot into the back of the net for her third goal in the last two games.
Assumption came out with energy to open the second period, generating sustained offensive pressure and forcing Stone to make several key saves to preserve the Skyhawks' lead. Stonehill regained momentum midway through the stanza as Geist buried a precise feed from Russell, lifting a shot over Assumption netminder Jadyn Weiser to extend the margin to 3-0.
The Skyhawks' penalty kill continued its strong play, successfully neutralizing an Assumption power play later in the period. The Greyhounds eventually broke through when Sasha Marino converted directly off an offensive-zone faceoff for her first career goal, trimming the deficit to 3-1. Stonehill quickly responded, however, as Sacca capitalized on a power-play opportunity late in the frame to restore the three-goal cushion at 4-1.
In the third, Stonehill's defensive unit remained composed, highlighted by a crucial 5-on-3 penalty kill early in the period to maintain control. The Skyhawks closed out the contest with steady play at both ends of the ice, skating away with a decisive 4-1 victory over Assumption.
