Women’s Hockey Drops Road Matchup at Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. (November 7, 2025) – The Stonehill College women's ice hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision on the road to NEWHA opponent Assumption University on Saturday evening. With the result, the Skyhawks move to 5-4-1 overall and 5-2-1 in conference play, while the Greyhounds improve to 5-6-1 overall and 5-2-1 in NEWHA action.

Highlights
  • Sophomore defenders Seina Spadone and Reagan Whynot led the way offensively for the Skyhawks with six and five shots on goal, respectively.
  • Seniors Maddi Achtyl and Brianna Walkom, along with first-year Payton Palsa, each recorded eight wins in the faceoff circle.
  • Sophomore goaltender Alexsa Caron made 22 saves between the pipes for Stonehill.
  • Natalie Joiner fueled the Greyhounds' offense with a goal and an assist, while Valentini and Cielo each found the back of the net for their first and second goals of the season, respectively.
  • Jadyn Weiser earned her second shutout of the season for Assumption, turning aside all 32 shots she faced.

How It Happened
Assumption wasted little time opening the scoring, as just 1:04 into the first period, Valentini netted her first goal of the season off an assist from Rachel Agerter. Following the Greyhounds' early tally, both teams traded shot attempts through the remainder of the frame, with Assumption carrying a 1-0 advantage into the first intermission.

Despite generating three power-play opportunities and outshooting the Greyhounds 23-10 — including 10 shots on goal — in the middle frame, Stonehill was held off the board while Assumption doubled its lead midway through the period on Cielo's second goal of the campaign.

Just 58 seconds into the third, the Greyhounds extended their lead once more when Joiner forced a turnover at the Stonehill blue line and fired a shot inside the far post past Caron for her third goal of the season, making it 3-0.

Stonehill continued to pressure offensively down the stretch, outshooting Assumption in the closing minutes, but the Skyhawks were unable to find the back of the net and fell by a final score of 3-0 Saturday evening.
