PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Dec. 13, 2025) – The Stonehill women's basketball team nearly knocked off Providence before falling by a score of 63-51 at Alumni Hall Saturday afternoon.
Three Skyhawk players scored in double figures, led by
Brooke Paquette's 15 points. Stonehill moves to 3-5 overall (0-0 NEC), while the Friars now stand 7-5 (0-2 Big East).
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS:
- Brooke Paquette surpassed the 700-point mark for her career, finishing the day with 15 points.
- Stonehill connected on 13-of-16 foul shots (.813), including making its first eight attempts, in the first half.
- Reese Roggenburk recorded a career-high with 13 rebounds. Roggenburk also tallied nine points.
- Julia Webster added 12 points and six rebounds.
- Ella Pelletier scored 10 points, hitting two 3-pointers.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the first,
Brooke Paquette, who opened the scoring for Stonehill with a jumper to give her more than 700 points in her career, tied the game, 8-8, with a pair of foul shots at the 4:49 mark, as the Skyhawks went 9-of-10 from the line in the opening quarter. With the effort from the foul line, Stonehill trailed by only one, 12-11, after the opening 10 minutes of action.
The trend of strong shooting from the free-throw line for Stonehill continued in the second, as the game was knotted, 14-14, until Emma Arca drained a trey to give the Skyhawks a 17-14 edge. The Friars responded with a 10-0 run to go ahead by seven 24-17 with less than four minutes to play in the half. At the break, Stonehill trailed, 28-20.
As the game moved to the third quarter,
Julia Webster opened the second half with a pair of buckets to pull the Skyhawks within four, 28-24. After Providence went back up, 36-27, the Friars carried a 43-32 advantage into the final stanza.
Stonehill cut the deficit to eight, 50-42, at the final media timeout, the Skyhawks got within two, 52-50, after a trey by
Ella Pelletier with 2:58 remaining. Providence responded with a 7-0 run to put the back out of reach in the final minute.

Stonehill (3-5, 0-0 NEC) will travel to DeLand, Fla., for the Hatter Classic on Friday, Dec. 19 when it takes on Bethune-Cookman (2-7, 0-0 SWAC) at 1:15 p.m.
