STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (February 16, 2025) – Sophomore
Kayla Oakes (Kingston, N.Y.) won the long jump, and junior
Jordan Malloy (Colchester, Conn.) won the 3000-meter race on day one of Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Center on Sunday.
For team scores, the men's and women's track and field teams for Stonehill College finished in the top three, with the women ranking second with 29.5 points and the men ranking third with 22.5 points.
In the women's standing, only Wagner ranks ahead of the Skyhawks with 33 points, while Central Connecticut State is in third place with 27 points. On the men's leaderboards, Wagner is in first place with 49 points, while Central Connecticut ranks second with 37 points.
All events were preliminary races aside from field events and the 3000-meter race on Sunday. Finals for all track events and remaining field events will start at 9 a.m. tomorrow in Staten Island.
WOMEN'S EVENTS
Finals
- Oakes won the long jump finals with a leap of 5.66m (11' 6.75"), making her the back-to-back indoor long jump champion in the NEC after winning last year's with her personal record of 5.73m (18' 9.75").
- Freshman Hannah Santos (Swansea, Mass.) placed fourth in the high jump in her championship debut, reaching 1.62m (5' 3.75"), tallying four points for the Skyhawks.
- Freshman Mollie Osgood (Wilmington, Mass.) tied for fifth in the high jump at 1.59m (5' 2.5"), and classmate Simone Connolly (West Roxbury, Mass.) placed eighth, also reaching 1.59m (5' 2.5").
- Malloy broke an NEC championship record that stood since 2006 (9:46.03) in the 3000-meter race, clocking in at 9:42.01, a personal record for the junior.
Preliminaries
- Senior Madison Rousseau (Canton, Mass.) placed second in the 60-meter hurdle prelims with a time of 8.89 seconds to qualify for tomorrow's final.
- Freshman Aly Bassett (Easton, Mass.) also qualified for tomorrow's 60m hurdles finals, placing eighth at 9.55 seconds.
- Senior Emma Lawrence (Milford, Mass.) won the mile preliminary race at 5:19.16, while Malloy placed fourth at 5:23.27, as both Skyhawks will run in tomorrow's final.
- Graduate student Kaytlin Encarnacao (Reading, Mass.) finished third in the 400-meter dash prelim at 58.38.
- Sophomore Madison Stott (Dartmouth, Mass.) came in first place in the 500-meter dash prelim, clocking in at 1:17.59, while junior Grace Tyrrell (Cavendish, Vt.) finished third at 1:19.72 as they both qualified for tomorrow's final.
- Freshman Emmy Belvin (Chepachet, R.I.) made her indoor championship debut, placing seventh in the 800-meter run prelim to qualify for tomorrow's final with a time of 2:19.23, a new PR for the freshman.
- Lawrence also qualified for the 800m final, placing eighth today with a time of 2:19.62.
MEN'S EVENTS
Finals
- Graduate student Jacob Pacheco (Merrimack, N.H.) was the top scorer for the Skyhawks on Sunday, placing second in the pole vault finals to score eight points, reaching a height of 4.63m (15' 2.25").
- Classmate Cody DeAngelo (Old Saybrook, Conn.) tied for fourth in the pole vault at 4.13m (13' 6.5"), netting 4.5 points.
- Sophomore Joseph Chesney (Cumberland, R.I.) placed sixth in the shot put finals with a toss of 14.58m (47' 10"), a new personal record for the sophomore thrower.
- Classmate Christopher Gill (Boston, Mass.) notched a seventh-place finish in the shot put at 14.42m (47' 3.75").
- Graduate student Patrick Garratt (Westwood, Mass.) tallied six points for the Skyhawks with a fourth-place finish in the 3000-meter race final, crossing the finish line at 8:32.72.
Preliminaries
- Sophomore Ean Hynes (Newburyport, Mass.) qualified for tomorrow's 60-meter hurdles finals, placing third at 8.30 seconds, while classmate Will Tinkham (Stoughton, Mass) qualified with a fifth-place finish in 8.45 seconds.
- Freshman Tristan Roche (Fairfield, Conn.) made his NEC championship debut, placing fifth to qualify for tomorrow's 60-meter dash final, crossing the finish line in 7.01 seconds. Classmate Miles Burr (Trenton, Maine) clocked in at 7.03 seconds, qualifying for the 60m dash finals, placing seventh.
- Senior Jace Hollenbach (Topsham, Maine) and freshman Ethan Fadden (Bellingham, Mass.) qualified with eighth and ninth-place finishes in the mile preliminary race. Hollenbach finished at 4:27.04, and Fadden clocked in at 4:27.11
- Sophomore Jon Dougherty (Reading, Mass.) set a new PR in the 400-meter dash prelims, placing seventh and qualifying for tomorrow's final with a time of 49.44 seconds.
- With a fourth-place finish in the 500-meter run prelim, senior Louis Warner (Kinderhook, N.Y.) qualified for the final with a time of 1:05.61.
- Burr also competed in the 200-meter dash prelims, placing sixth at 22.01 seconds while senior Shea Drugan (Westfield, Mass.) placed eighth with a time of 22.14 seconds.

- Stonehill Track and Field will close out Northeast Conference Indoor Championships at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex tomorrow at 9 a.m. and will be back in action at New England Championships in Boston, Mass. at the Reggie Lewis Center on March 7.
