Central Connecticut State Upends Men’s Basketball

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (February 22, 2025) – The Stonehill College men's basketball dropped an NEC matchup at Central Connecticut State University, 67-41, Saturday afternoon at Detrick Gymnasium.

LEADERS
  • Sophomore Todd Brogna (Southborough, Mass.) led Stonehill with 11 points, shooting 4-11 from the field and 2-5 from three with five rebounds and a steal.
  • Junior Chas Stinson (Charlotte, N.C.) scored 10 points with four rebounds, two assists, and a steal, shooting 50% (4-8) from the floor.
  • CCSU's Jordan Jones tallied a game-high 23 points with four assists and three rebounds to lead the Blue Devils.
FIRST HALF
  • Halfway through the first 20 minutes of action, CCSU grabbed a nine-point lead, 16-7, after going on a 10-0 run.
  • Stonehill tied the score twice (16-16 and 18-18) but the Blue Devils closed out the half on a 19-3 as Stonehill missed seven on its final eight shots, going into the break down 37-21.
  • Jones had 14 first-half points while the Skyhawks shot 1-11 (9.1%) from three-point range compared to the Blue Devils, who went 7-15 (46.7%) from long range.
SECOND HALF
  • CCSU never wavered in the second half, leading by at least 14 points for the final 20 minutes of play.
  • Stonehill continued to struggle shooting the ball, going 7-26 (26.9%) from the field and 2-9 (22.2%) in the second half.
  • The Blue Devils corralled 11 second-half offensive rebounds to secure the NEC win by a score of 67-41.
NOTEWORTHY
  • Stonehill is now 7-31 against CCSU all-time, losing five straight against the Blue Devils including seven straight losses on the road. The Skyhawks are 1-19 all-time in New Britain, Conn.
  • Brogna remains the lone NCAA Division I basketball player, averaging 50/40/90 shooting splits, as he now sits at 51.1/41.9/90.4.
  • Brogna has now scored in double figures in 10 of the past 12 games while recording at least six rebounds in 11 of the last 13 games.
  • Stonehill shot 31.4% (16-51) from the field on Saturday, its second-lowest shooting clip of the season and worst shooting performance during NEC play.
