How it Happened
After a back-and-forth start to the conference matchup, Post surged ahead with a two-goal lead midway through the first period, as Grom and Luckman each found the back of the net within a two-minute span. Grom opened the scoring at the 12:20 mark, capitalizing on a misplayed pass in the Skyhawks' defensive zone. Luckman followed up with her second goal of the season, assisted by first-year student
Ruby Mitchell and sophomore
Jet Devlin.
Following Post's second goal at the 13:50 mark, Stonehill gained offensive momentum, registering 12 shot attempts compared to just one by the Eagles in the final six minutes of the opening frame.
Stonehill carried that momentum into the second period, outshooting the Eagles 15-4 over the next 20 minutes. After drawing a high-sticking penalty at the 12:09 mark, the Skyhawks wasted no time converting on their second power-play opportunity of the game. Feeney and Russell exchanged passes before setting up Karo, who fired a shot over the blocker of Amundson to cut Stonehill's deficit to one.
Just over two minutes later, at 14:30, Geist collected a pass along the near boards and launched a shot from the blue line that beat the Eagles' netminder for her seventh goal of the season, tying the game at two. Following Geist's equalizer, Spadone rifled a wrist shot from the far side faceoff dot into the back of the net at 15:57, scoring what would ultimately prove to be the game-winning goal.
With a one-goal lead entering the third period, the Skyhawks aimed to protect their advantage. However, at the 15:29 mark, Wysocki nearly tied the game with a powerful shot from the slot that rang off the crossbar. Just 21 seconds later, Russell made an impressive coast-to-coast dash, weaving through the Post defense and scoring unassisted to extend the Skyhawks' lead.
At 17:52, Wise sealed the win by scoring into an empty net for her third goal of the season, securing the 5-2 victory on home ice.
