Men's Tennis Impresses in 5-2 Win Over Coppin State

CHESTERTOWN, Md. (February 9, 2025) – The Stonehill College men's tennis team secured a dominant 5-2 victory over Coppin State University, claiming the doubles point and earning four singles victories. With this win, the Skyhawks improved to 4-2 on the season, while the Eagles fell to 0-1 in their dual match opener.

  • Freshmen classmates Nicolas Arredondo and Guillermo Bennaton secured individual doubles wins for the Skyhawks.
  • Arredondo and Bennaton combined for a doubles win before securing their individual double victories at the No.1 and No. 2 positions of singles competition, respectively.  
  • Senior Guillaume Duhil de Bénazé and freshman Javier Gutierrez combined as a pairing for their first doubles win.
  • Senior Jacob Wilhelm Krefting and junior Mark Kröll added their respective seventh and fourth singles triumphs of the year.
  • Freshman Dentry Mortimer and junior Rishi Jalota picked up the lone singles wins for Coppin State.
How It Happened
  • Senior Harsh Kheterpal and junior Liam Murtaugh opened the match with a 7-5 win at the No. 1 doubles position over Wilhelm Krefting and Kröll.
  • After dropping the opening match of the double's competition, Arredondo and Bennaton took down freshman Aidan Thomas-Cogar and junior Ulugbek Abdurakhmonov, 6-1, to force a decisive third doubles match.
  • Gutierrez and Duhil de Bénazé clinched the doubles point for the Skyhawks with a 6-3 win over Jalota and Mortimer.
  • Bennaton and Arredondo secured their individual doubles wins on the day with their first career wins at the No. 1 and 2 positions, respectively.
  • Bennaton defeated Kheterpal, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 1 singles before Arredondo dropped just one game to senior Tinashe Whata, 6-1, 6-0 on the second singles court.
  • Wilhelm Krefting secured his team-leading seventh singles win of the year against Murtaugh, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 3 singles slot.
  • Kröll clinched the match victory for the Skyhawks after securing a 6-0, 6-2 win over Abdurakhmonov at the No. 4 singles position.
