Women’s Basketball Celebrates Senior Day with NEC Win Over Le Moyne, 65-61

Paquette scores 22 and Swider records ninth double-double of season in final home game of regular season

EASTON, MASS. (March 1, 2025) – The Stonehill College women's basketball team celebrated its senior day with a win, defeating Le Moyne College, 65-61, at Merkert Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

Before the game, the Skyhawks honored and celebrated its class of 2025, seniors Sharn Hayward (Penguin, Tasmania) and Maureen Stapleton (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.), and graduate student Kylie Swider (Portsmouth, R.I.).

Leaders
Sophomore Brooke Paquette (Hudson, N.H.) led Stonehill with 22 points to go with seven rebounds, one assist, and one steal. She went 8-of-14 (57.1%) from the field and 3-for-6 (50%) from three-point range.

Swider's ninth double-double of the season came on 13 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks while tallying a career-high five assists.

Hayward and freshman Megan Sias (Toms River, N.J.) also found themselves with double-digit scoring performances on Saturday. Hayward scored 18 points with four threes and Sias notched 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

How it Happened
After going down 5-0 to start the game, Stonehill put together a 17-4 run, cashing in on a trio of three-pointers with Paquette leading the charge, scoring seven points for the Skyhawks during the run. The Dolphins would close the gap, scoring the final six points of the first quarter as the teams went into the second with Stonehill ahead by two, 17-15.

In a back and forth second quarter, the lead changed six times while Sierra Linnin scored eight points to open the quarter for the Dolphins as Le Moyne took a five point lead, 28-23. Stonehill ended the half on a 12-6 run, including a buzzer-beating three from Sias that gave the Skyhawks a 35-34 lead at the break.

Stonehill made three of its first four shot attempts to open the second half with Hayward sinking back-to-back threes to give the Skyhawks their largest lead of the game, 43-36. Le Moyne then answered with a 10-0 run to retake the lead but Sias ended the quarter with a pair of baskets to put Stonehill back in front by one, 47-46.

After a three from Linnin put the Dolphins up two, 51-49, Hayward responded with a three of her own, sparking a 10-0 run for the Skyhawks to put Stonehill up eight, 59-51. Le Moyne battled back with an 8-0 run to tie the score with 1:48 on the clock, but a Paquette three-pointer broke the stalemate on the next possession. Swider iced the game with a putback off a Stonehill miss as the Skyhawks secured the win on senior day, 65-61.
