ASHEVILLE, N.C. (March 2, 2025) – The Stonehill College baseball team fell in its series finale against UNC Asheville, 7-5, on Sunday afternoon as the Skyhawks fall to 0-7 to begin the 2025 season, while the Bulldogs improved to 6-5 overall.

  • Rylen Stockton and Blaize Johnson each tallied homeruns for the Bulldogs while Stockton led the team with three runs batted in.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stonehill went down 1-2-3 to begin the game and escaped the bottom half of the inning with only one run given up despite Bulldogs loading the bases as Stonehill starter, junior Jimmy Gilleran, struck out Caiden Chilausky to get out of the jam.

UNC Asheville tacked on another run in the second before notching two more in the fourth thanks to two walks, a single, and a sacrifice bunt in the inning. A fifth run came across on a solo homerun from Johnson to right field in the bottom of the fifth.

Stonehill got on the board in the top of the sixth as Thorbahn ripped a double into the left center field gap to bring in Cohall and sophomore Nathan Kearney followed by an RBI single from sophomore Aidan Sengenberger that made the score 5-3.

The Bulldogs responded in the bottom half of the sixth with a leadoff single followed by a two-run homerun from Stockton to double the UNC Asheville advantage.

Cohall doubled in the top of the eighth and Thorbahn followed that up with a two-run blast to left center to cut the Skyhawks deficit in half to 7-5. Stonehill was held without a baserunner in the top of the ninth as the comeback attempt was cut short, giving the Bulldogs a series sweep.
