HOW IT HAPPENED
Stonehill wasted no time establishing an early lead, jumping ahead by six runs after the bottom of the second inning. The scoring was initiated by Sparr, who launched a three-run home run over the left-field fence, bringing in both Parks and junior
Michael Rickert, who reached base via a single to center field and a walk, respectively.
McGee further extended the Skyhawks' lead in the bottom of the second with a near-identical three-run shot over the left-field fence, scoring Rader and Parks. This gave Stonehill a commanding 6-0 advantage after two innings. In the bottom of the fourth, the Skyhawks added to their lead when Sparr delivered a two-run single to left field, scoring McGee and Parks, and pushing the score to 8-0 heading into the fifth inning.
With a comfortable eight-run cushion, Bell settled into a rhythm on the mound, allowing no hits and just one walk between the third and seventh innings.
The Hawks finally broke their scoreless streak in the top of the seventh when Rodriguez smacked a two-run single into shallow left field. However, Stonehill responded quickly with two more runs in the bottom of the seventh. Rader delivered an RBI single through the right side, and sophomore
Ryan LeClair followed with a sacrifice fly, increasing the Skyhawks' lead to 10-2.
Welsch came on to close the game in the top of the eighth, shutting down the Hawks with two hits allowed and four strikeouts over two innings, securing the Skyhawks' dominant 10-2 victory over UMES.
