Outdoor Track and Field Season Begins at UMass Lowell Invitational

LOWELL, Mass. (March 29, 2025) – The Stonehill College track and field opened its outdoor slate at the UMass Lowell Invitational at the Cushing Field Complex on Saturday.
 
WOMEN'S EVENTS
  • Senior Madison Gunderway (Cranston, R.I.) won the javelin throw with a personal record of 35.75m (117' 3") and placed second in the hammer throw with a toss of 41.89m (137' 5").
  • Freshman Samantha Gaudet (Falmouth, Maine) placed second in her discus throw debut with a mark of 33.01m (108' 3") before finishing third in the javelin at 27.73m (91').
  • Graduate student Abigail Larsson (Bayport, N.Y.) won the pole vault, reaching 3.25m (10' 8").
  • Junior Sydney Cahill (Reading, Mass.) placed second in the javelin at 29.41m (96' 6") before placing fourth in the long jump at 5.05m (16' 7").
  • Freshman Hannah Santos (Swansea, Mass.) won the high jump with a leap of 1.60m (5' 3"). Classmate Mollie Osgood (Wilmington, Mass.) reached 1.50m (4' 11"). in the high jump to place fourth.
  • Freshman Aly Bassett (Easton, Mass.) made her outdoor debut in the 100-meter hurdles, placing second at 15.82 seconds.
  • Senior Emma Lawrence (Milford, Mass.) finished the 1500-meter run in 4:57.68 to place fourth while junior Emily Young (Newton, Mass.) finished fifth at 4:59.43.
  • Four of the top-six finishers in the 100-meter dash were Skyhawks, led by graduate student Kaytlin Encarnacao (Reading, Mass.), who placed second at 12.84 seconds. Sophomore Madison Stott (Dartmouth, Mass.) finished third at 12.96 seconds, classmate Katie Gibbons (Pembroke, Mass.) came in fifth at 13.32 seconds, and freshman Sofija Slezas (Quincy, Mass.) came in sixth place at 13.55 seconds in the first outdoor race of her career.
  • Junior Grace Tyrrell (Cavendish, Vt.) won the 400-meter hurdles at 1:09.18, and classmate Aneka Andrews (McLean, Va.) finished fourth at 1:14.98.
  • The team of Encarnacao, Gibbons, Stott, and Slezas placed second in the 4x100-meter relay race with a time of 49.54 seconds.
MEN'S EVENTS
  • Sophomore Max Bishop (Hopkinton, N.H.) competed in the hammer throw for the first time in his career, placing fourth with a toss of 39.10m (128' 3"). Bishop also placed fifth in the discus throw, reaching 35.81m (117' 6").
  • Placing fourth in the discus was sophomore Joseph Chesney (Cumberland, R.I.) at 35.83m (117' 6"). Chesney also came in fourth place in the shot put with a throw of 13.51m (44' 4").
  • Graduate student Cody DeAngelo (Old Saybrook, Conn.) won his first indoor pole vault of the spring, vaulting 4.10m (13' 5.25").
  • Freshmen Alex Hersey (Marblehead, Mass.) and Matt Cropley (Norton, Mass.) finished third and fifth in their outdoor long jump debuts, as Hersey leapt 6.12m (20' 1") and Cropley reached 5.98m (19' 7.5") to set a new personal record.
  • Sophomore Keagan Fletcher (Wrentham, Mass.) hit a mark of 1.75m (5' 8.75") in the high jump as he placed fourth. Freshman Kenly Laime (West Bridgewater, Mass.) finished fifth in the event, reaching the same mark of 1.75m (5' 8.75").
  • Sophomore Will Tinkham (Stoughton, Mass.) won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.02 seconds while Hersey placed third at 16.16 seconds. Tinkham also placed third in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 59.79 seconds.
  • Freshman Marcus McCoy (Linden, N.J.) placed second in the 400m hurdles, clocking in at 59.58 seconds.
  • Sophomore Colin Keane (Blackwood, N.J.) placed 10th in the 1500-meter run at 4:09.53.
  • Freshman Miles Burr (Trenton, Maine) won the 100-meter dash in his outdoor debut, crossing the finish line in 10.67 seconds.
  • Senior Shea Drugan (Westfield, Mass.) finished the 400-meter dash in 51.62 seconds to place sixth.
  • The 4x100-meter team of freshman Tristan Roche (Fairfield, Conn.), freshman Matthew Anderson (Webster, Mass.), sophomore Jon Dougherty (Reading, Mass.), and Drugan won the race with a combined time of 42.85 seconds, the second-fastest time in the NEC this spring.
