BOSTON, Mass. (March 7, 2025) – Graduate student
Lois Jones (London, England) won the women's pole vault on Friday as the Stonehill College track and field competed on the first day of NEICAAA Indoor Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center.
The women finished day one in a tie for seventh place with 13 points with New Hampshire in first place, tallying 51 points on Friday. The Sacred Heart women sit in second place with 45 points while Rhode Island rounds out the top three with 32 points.
Rhode Island ranks first in the men's standings after the first day of competition with 50.5 points with New Hampshire in second with 33.5 points. Hartford, Merrimack, and Rhode Island College remain tied for third place with 10 points while the Skyhawks are in a tie for 11th, notching seven points.
WOMEN'S EVENTS
- Jones won the pole vault in a jump off with a mark of 3.76m (12'4"), matching her career-best that she set at America East Indoor Championships in 2023 during her time at Bryant University.
- Graduate student Abigail Larsson (Bayport, N.Y.) placed ninth in the pole vault, reaching 3.46m (11' 4.25").
- Sophomore Kayla Oakes (Kingston, N.Y.) finished ninth in the long jump, leaping a distance of 5.43m (17' 9.75").
- Graduate student Kaytlin Encarnacao (Reading, Mass.) finished first in the 500-meter dash preliminary race with a time of 1:14.52, the fastest time of the season for her. Junior Grave Tyrrell (Cavendish, Vt.) also qualified for tomorrow's 500m dash final, placing seventh with a time of 1:17.75.
- Freshman Emmy Belvin (Chepachet, R.I.) matched her season-best time of 3:00.16 in the 1000-meter race, placing third overall.
- Senior Madison Rousseau (Canton, Mass.) placed eighth in the 200-meter dash preliminary race at 25.65 seconds to qualify for tomorrow's final.
- Sophomore Sydney Kalil (Milford, Mass.) came in 10th place with a time of 18:48.81 in the 5000-meter race.
MEN'S EVENTS
- Grad students Cody DeAngelo (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and Jacob Pacheco (Merrimack, N.H.) placed sixth and seventh in the pole vault with marks of 4.58m (15' 0.25").
- Sophomore Jon Dougherty (Reading, Mass.) finished second in the 400m dash prelims, clocking in at 49.64 seconds to qualify for tomorrow's final.
- Sophomore Colin Keane (Blackwood, N.J.) qualified for the 1000-meter run final tomorrow, finishing in 2:34.66 to place 6th in the prelim.
- In the 200m dash prelim, senior Shea Drugan (Westfield, Mass.) crossed the finish line in 22.04 seconds to finish second while freshman Miles Burr (Trenton, Maine) placed third at 22.10 seconds, setting up both sprinters for tomorrows 200m dash final.
- Freshman Shane Stanghellini (Plymouth, Mass.) set a new PR in the indoor 5000m race, placing seventh with a time of 15:33.99.
- The four-man team of freshman Aiden Ruiz (Northborough, Mass.), sophomore Ryan Lavery (Townsend, Mass.), junior David DiPietro (Beverly, Mass.), and freshman William O'Shea (Cumberland, R.I.) finished second in the Distance Medley Relay race with a time of 10:48.70.
