HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first two innings, Stonehill broke the deadlock in the top of the third with a powerful swing of the bat. Following a leadoff single from Sengenberger up the middle, LeClair launched a long fly ball over the left-field fence for the first home run of his collegiate career, giving the Skyhawks a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth, Stonehill extended its lead with four additional runs, building a commanding six-run advantage. Sophomore
Grayson Sparr delivered a two-run single up the middle with the bases loaded, followed by a sacrifice fly from Sengenberger and an RBI double from freshman
Will Newton, completing the scoring surge.
High Point began to trim the deficit in the bottom of the fifth when McCarter hit a two-run homer to center field, narrowing Stonehill's lead to 6-2. The Panthers then erupted for seven runs in the seventh inning, seizing their first lead of the game, a lead they would not relinquish.
Key to High Point's seven-run seventh was a three-run home run by Simpson over the batter's eye in center field, along with bases-loaded walks drawn by redshirt junior
Christian Smith and freshman
Jack Clark, and a two-run single from senior
Konni Durschlag.
High Point added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth, completing the 11-6 comeback victory over the Skyhawks.
