Track and Field Competes in Final Tune-Up Before NEC Championships

AMHERST, Mass. (April 25, 2025) – The Stonehill College track and field team competed on day one of the Ken O'Brien Pre-Conference Meet at the UMass Track and Field Complex on Friday in the final meet before next weekend's NEC Outdoor Championships.
 
WOMEN'S EVENTS
  • In one of two field events on Friday, senior Madison Gunderway (Cranston, R.I.) placed fifth in the javelin throw, reaching 35.70m (117' 2"), coming one inch shy of her personal record.
  • Sophomore Kayla Oakes (Kingston, N.Y.) came in 12th in the other field event of the day, the long jump, reaching 5.39m (17' 8.25").
  • Junior Jordan Malloy (Colchester, Conn.) ran the third-fastest 1500-meter run in the conference, while setting a new PR at 4:30.73.
  • Graduate student Kaytlin Encarnacao (Reading, Mass.) finished runner-up in the 400-meter dash, recording the second-fastest time of her career in the event and fastest in the outdoor 400m, finishing in 55.35 seconds. This marks the top time in the NEC this spring.
  • Encarnacao also placed sixth in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 25.18 seconds, the eighth-best time in the conference.
  • Senior Madison Rousseau (Canton, Mass.) came in third place in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing the race in 14.36 seconds, her second-best time of the spring.
  • Senior Emma Lawrence (Milford, Mass.) and freshman Emmy Belvin (Chepachet, R.I.) both placed in the top 10 of the 800-meter run, with Lawrence placing fifth at 2:15.54 and Belvin coming in ninth at 2:20.18. Lawrence now ranks fourth in the conference in the event.
  • Junior Grace Tyrrell (Cavendish, Vt) finished the 400-meter dash at 1:03.82 to come in sixth place.
  • Freshman Mallory Hildreth (Pittsford, N.Y.) was the first Skyhawk to compete in the 3000-meter steeplechase this season, coming in third place at 11:29.30, the second-best time in the NEC.
MEN'S EVENTS
  • Graduate student Jacob Pacheco (Merrimack, N.H.) won the javelin throw for the second week in a row, hitting a new PR of 59.78m (196' 2") while improving on his second-place ranking in the NEC in the event.
  • Senior Zachary Ofurum (Brockton, Mass.), freshman Kauan Bento (Bridgewater, Mass.), junior Patrick Morin (Barnstable, Mass.), and sophomore Jon Dougherty (Reading, Mass.) won the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 41.14 seconds, the best time in the NEC.
  • Grad student Patrick Garratt (Westwood, Mass.) came in 13th in the 1500m run, finishing in 3:56.93, the eighth-best time in the conference and a new PR.
  • Sophomore Jon Dougherty (Reading, Mass.) placed third in the 400m dash with a new PR of 48.73 seconds, as he now ranks fifth in the NEC in the event.
  • Senior Shea Drugan (Westfield, Mass.) finished sixth in the 100m dash at 10.80 seconds.
  • Sophomore Will Tinkham (Stoughton, Mass.) came in fourth in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.77 seconds, while sophomore Ean Hynes (Newburyport, Mass.) made his collegiate debut in the event, placing fifth at 14.92 seconds.
  • In the 800m run, sophomore Matthew Malora (Harrington, N.J.) placed fifth and set a personal record with a time of 1:54.71, a top 10 time in the conference in the event.
  • Freshman Marcus McCoy (Linden, N.J.) crossed the finish line in 58.58 seconds in the 400H, coming in eighth place.
  • Freshman Miles Burr (Trenton, Maine) had the fastest 200m dash time of his career at 21.52 seconds, placing fourth and moving up to fifth on the NEC leaderboard.
  • Freshman Jaxson Merrill (Barnstable, Mass.) competed in the 3000-meter steeplechase for the first time in his career, placing eighth as he finished the event in 10:24.42.
