HOW IT HAPPENED
The Blue Devils wasted no time seizing control in the series finale, erupting for nine runs in the bottom of the second inning. Leading the offensive surge was Brown, who drove in three runs with a solo home run and a two-run double. Merlonghi added a two-run double of his own, while seniors
Jackson Haker and Falk each contributed run-scoring singles. The inning was capped by a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch drawn by senior
Brady Short and a sacrifice fly from senior
Aidan Redahan.
The teams exchanged runs in the third and fourth innings. Stonehill's Cohall drove in LeClair with an RBI single up the middle in the third, but CCSU answered in the fourth with an RBI double from Merlonghi to maintain the Blue Devils' momentum.
Stonehill mounted a comeback effort in the fifth and sixth innings, cutting the deficit to 10-6. Keying the rally were a pair of RBI singles from Cohall, a two-run single by Parks, and a run scored by Parks on an infield double play off the bat of sophomore
Grayson Sparr.
Despite the push, CCSU responded decisively, plating six more runs over the sixth and seventh innings to secure a commanding 16-6 victory after seven innings.
