Women's Soccer Battles Idaho to Scoreless Draw Under the Lights

EASTON, Mass. (August 22, 2025) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against the University of Idaho on Saturday night at WB Mason Stadium. The result moves the Skyhawks to 0-2-2, while the Vandals shift to 2-1-1.

Highlights
  • The draw marks Stonehill's first scoreless result since a 0-0 tie against Southern Connecticut State on November 3, 2021.
  • The Skyhawks outshot Idaho 9-6, recording a season-high six shots on goal, while the Vandals held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
  • Junior Emma Cranston led Stonehill with a game-high two shots on goal.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Allie Sougaris earned her first shutout of the season, stopping the only shot on goal she faced.
  • Redshirt sophomore Paula Flores secured her third shutout of the year for Idaho, making a season-high six saves.
  • Redshirt junior Naomi Alvarez paced the Vandals with a game-high three shot attempts.

How it Happened
Following a back-and-forth start to the non-conference matchup, Idaho nearly broke through in the 11th minute when a corner from the far side found its way into the box, leading to shot attempts from Alvarez and senior Karli Yoshida-Williams, but neither could convert.

Just eight minutes later, a foul inside the 18-yard box by Stonehill senior Katie Carey awarded the Vandals a penalty kick. Graduate student Annika Farley stepped to the spot, but her attempt sailed high and wide, keeping the match scoreless.

Sougaris delivered one of the night's key moments in the 30th minute, making a diving stop on a point-blank header from redshirt sophomore Calli Chiarelli. The Skyhawks then countered with quality chances of their own, as Cranston unleashed a strike from 25 yards out before sophomore Erin Foley forced another test on goal minutes later.

Scoreless at the half, both sides searched for momentum coming out of the break. Stonehill controlled much of the play over the final 45 minutes, outshooting Idaho 5-2 and placing four shots on target, but the Vandals' back line and Flores held firm. With neither side able to capitalize, the match ended in a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes of play.
