Field Hockey Squeezed by Bryant in Non-Conference Action

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Stonehill field hockey team drops its second game of the season, falling to Bryant University, 4-0, on the road on Sunday afternoon.

STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
  • Freshman goalie Isabelle Morton recorded five saves in the contest.
  • Sophomore Siena De Roeck played solid defensively helping the Skyhawks fend off five penalty corners in the second quarter.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Stonehill offense set the tone and looked poised to score first. Pressuring the Bulldog defense, the Skyhawks' earned five penalty corner chances but was unable to put one into the back of the cage.

With the game all square heading into the second stanza, offensive momentum shifted over to Bryant. However, the Skyhawks were able to fend off five penalty corners opportunities by the Bulldogs, including a big defensive stop by sophomore Siena De Roeck.

It led to Stonehill's biggest scoring opportunity of the quarter. The Skyhawks quickly moved the ball down field and earned themselves a penalty corner of their own, but they were unable to convert and the two teams went into the half knotted up at zero.

When the teams returned to the field at the start of the second quarter, the Bulldogs scored twice within the first three minutes to take a two-goal lead. Facing pressure as the Bulldogs looked to add to their lead freshman goalie Isabelle Morton kept it a two-goal deficit with back-to-back saves.

However, Bryant added an insurance goal late in the quarter to extended their lead to three before tacking on a fourth goal in the fourth period to pick up their second win of the season.

UP NEXT
