Skyhawks Held in Check in Non-Conference Finale at UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. (September 11, 2025) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team came up short in its non-conference finale Thursday night, falling 3-0 to UMass Lowell. The Skyhawks move to 0-5-2 on the season, while the River Hawks improve to 2-3-2.

Highlights
  • Stonehill's 23 shot attempts marked the most in a single game since the Skyhawks registered 30 against Delaware State back on October 13, 2024.
  • Senior Hannah Anselmo posted a team-leading six shot attempts, while first-year student Dani Lomuscio tallied a career-high four.
  • Lomuscio and sophomore Erin Foley tied for the team-lead with a pair of shots on target.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Allie Sougaris matched her career-high total with seven saves on the night.
  • Senior Megan Banzi and first-year student Nora Belin netted their first goals of the season, while senior Anneliese Collin scored her second of the year for the River Hawks.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Welch picked up her second shutout of the season after stopping all five shots on net she faced.
How it Happened
UMass Lowell wasted little time opening the scoring, as Banzi headed home a cross from senior Nadja Anderson just 3:27 into the non-conference contest to give the River Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Despite conceding early, Stonehill responded with steady offensive pressure, generating four corner kicks and seven shot attempts—three of them on target—within the first 15 minutes. However, UMass Lowell extended its lead with two quick strikes just three minutes apart, as Colin (25:06) and Belin (28:16) pushed the margin to 3-0 inside the opening half hour.

In the closing stages of the first half, Skyhawks goalkeeper Sougaris came up with a pair of leaping punch saves to keep the deficit at three entering the break.

The second half saw more back-and-forth play between the two teams as both sides would be held scoreless throughout the final 45 minutes. Stonehill nearly broke through in the 83rd minute when junior Kayla Cassidy connected with classmate Casey Rice inside the 18-yard box, but Rice's shot sailed just high. The Skyhawks' late push came up short, as the River Hawks held on for the 3-0 victory.
