WEST Haven, Conn. (September 18, 2025) – Junior
Kayla Cassidy netted her first career two-goal game to lift the Stonehill College women's soccer team to its first win of the season, a 3-1 victory over New Haven in Thursday night's NEC opener in West Haven, Connecticut. The Skyhawks start conference play at 1-0 and improve to 1-5-2 overall, while the Chargers fall to 0-1 in the NEC and 0-6 on the year.
Highlights
- Cassidy recorded her first career two-goal game and moved into a tie for the NEC lead with three goals on the season.

- First-year student Dani Lomuscio and sophomore Meghan Dowd each registered their first collegiate points after dishing out an assist on Fitzgerald and Cassidy's second goal, respectively.
- Sophomore Allie Sougaris secured her first win of the season after holding the Chargers to one goal on eight shots faced.

How it Happened
Over the opening 20 minutes, the Skyhawks controlled possession in the offensive third, generating five corner kicks and six shot attempts compared to the Chargers' two shots and one corner. Despite quality scoring opportunities from Cassidy and Lomuscio, the match remained scoreless midway through the first half.
In the 31st minute, sophomore
Erin Foley set up Anselmo in the six-yard box for a prime scoring chance, but Daley came up with a spectacular save to preserve the stalemate heading into the final 15 minutes of the half.
The deadlock finally broke shortly after halftime. Just over three minutes into the second half, Lomuscio delivered a cross into the 18-yard box that Fitzgerald redirected into the back of the net for her first career goal, giving Stonehill a 1-0 lead.
The pace picked up quickly as both sides struck within a four-minute span. Cassidy doubled the Skyhawks' advantage in the 59th minute, only for New Haven's Henao to answer at 61:18, cutting the lead back to one.
Stonehill wasted little time restoring its cushion. Dowd played Cassidy into space up field, and the junior forward weaved through defenders before burying her second goal of the game—and third of the season—to put the Skyhawks ahead 3-1.
From there, the two teams traded chances, but Stonehill's defense held firm as the Skyhawks secured their first win of the season, topping New Haven in the conference opener by a final score of 3-1.
