How it Happened
After a scoreless first half that saw Stonehill outshoot Saint Francis 9-2—including four shots on target and a Foley attempt that rattled the crossbar—the Skyhawks broke through just over 10 minutes into the second half.
At the 55:50 mark, an incredible cross-field pass from Cranston found a wide-open Anselmo, who deked her defender and fired a strike past
Emma Sawich for her first of the day to give Stonehill the lead.
Less than 10 minutes later, Foley doubled the advantage with a header in the 65th minute, finishing a perfect cross from Cassidy, who had been sprung free on a through ball from Cranston. Saint Francis answered quickly, however, pulling within one in the 68th minute when Korpics forced a defensive turnover and scored past Skyhawks keeper Sougaris.
Anselmo then put the match out of reach with a stunning nine-second scoring flurry in the 78th minute. First, at 77:48, she buried a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box, curling it over the defensive wall and inside the left post. Moments later, at 77:57, she capitalized on a loose ball in the box after a Cassidy cross, completing her historic hat trick and extending the Skyhawks' lead to 4-1.
In the closing minutes, Zub netted her first collegiate goal at 87:53, sealing the 5-1 victory and pushing Stonehill to a perfect 2-0 start in NEC play.
