How it Happened
FDU controlled possession in the offensive third throughout the first half, outshooting Stonehill, 12-2, over the opening 45 minutes. Despite being outshot and conceding a goal to the Knights in the 31st minute off the boot of Burzaco, Sougaris held strong, keeping the Skyhawks' deficit to just one heading into halftime.
Coming out of the break, Stonehill looked to level the score. Just over two minutes into the second half, Renz set up classmate Cassidy for an excellent scoring opportunity, followed by a pair of Stonehill corner kicks. However, the FDU backline denied the Skyhawks' chances, preserving their 1-0 lead.
Moments later, the Knights doubled their advantage. Ougaard raced down the field after the second of Stonehill's corner kicks and fired a shot past Sougaris to make it 2-0. At the 57:06 mark, FDU extended the lead again as Salas scored her second goal of the season, putting the Knights ahead 3-0 with just over 30 minutes remaining.
Stonehill would respond in the final third of the match. After drawing a foul in the 18-yard box, Renz converted a penalty kick at 74:15, scoring her first goal of the season and putting the Skyhawks on the board. Less than 10 minutes later, at 83:39, NEC-leading scorer
Hannah Anselmo extended her season total to seven goals, dribbling past her defender and finishing off an assist from Cassidy to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Despite the late push, FDU's defense held firm, securing the narrow 3-2 victory over Stonehill.
