CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Stonehill volleyball team fell just short against Boston College, 3-1, as they opened the BC Invitational on Friday evening.
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
- Freshman Samantha Loyd posted a .333 attack percentage with 11 kills on 27 attempts and only two miscues.
- Senior Mia Berardino notched her first double-double of the season with 11 kills and 11 digs.
- Freshman Molly Felkins was solid at the net with a three total blocks – two solo and one block assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Boston College jumped in front early, taking the first sets, 25-15 and 25-17. But Stonehill put up a fight in the third set. Senior
Mia Berardino led the charge with seven kills, while freshman
Kendra Sawyer paced the offense with 13 assists to force a fourth set edging out the Eagles, 25-22.
The match looked like it was going to go to a decisive fifth set as the final points of the fourth set was a barn-burner between the Skyhawks and Eagles. Junior
Abby Farrell looked poised to send Stonehill to a fifth set with a kill to take 27-26 lead, but the Eagles answered with three straight kills to escape with the victory.
UP NEXT
Stonehill returns to the court tomorrow, Saturday, September 20 for the second day of the BC Invitational. They will play Bryant at noon then Harvard at 5 p.m.
