Men's Soccer to Recognize Hall of Fame Alum Andy McMahon '92 Before No. 17 Bryant Match

EASTON, Mass. – Prior to the Stonehill men's soccer vs. No. 17 Bryant University match on Saturday, September 20, Stonehill will welcome back legendary alumni Andy McMahon '92.

Already inducted into the Stonehill Athletics Hall of Fame, McMahon was recently recognized for his amazing accomplishments by the Northeast-10 Conference as he was inducted into the NE-10 Hall of Fame last June.
McMahon's newest honor is well-deserved.  McMahon completed his career at Stonehill as a three-time NE-10 All-Conference selection, an All-New England selection in 1990 and finally All-American in 1991. His dominance on the pitch led him to be named the NE-10 Player of the Year in 1990, while guiding Stonehill to its first of back-to-back NE-10 championships in 1990 & 1991.

Some memories from Andy's former teammates:

From Dan Sullivan '91
"Right away Andy made an impact as a very skilled central midfielder, a calm and technically talented player that was all about team success. What separated Andy from other talented players was how hard he worked on his game and his fitness. He was always in great condition and raised the bar of our off-season training. Andy accomplished so much and what I appreciated the most is how humble he stayed while earning all the honors he deserved!"

From Jay McHugh '89
"I played along Andy when I was a senior and he was only a freshman. He quickly put us all on notice and was our best player by the end of his first year. It was not surprising to see what he accomplished at Stonehill and leading the program to back-to-back NE10 championships."

From Dean O'Keefe '94, Current Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs / Director of Athletics
"Andy's statistics, awards and accolades speak for themselves, but it is Andy's extraordinary leadership skills that made him a truly special player, captain and teammate. In all my time playing sports, watching sports and working in sports, I have rarely seen anyone with Andy's ability to bring a team together for a common goal and create a culture of excellence the way he did.  Without Andy's leadership we don't win back-to-back NE-10 titles, we don't win nearly as many games, and we aren't as close as teammates and friends as we were then - and still are 35 years later."

Stonehill will honor Andy's distinguished career once again on the field during a pregame ceremony Saturday night.
