Anselmo's First-Half Brace Highlights Skyhawks Battle at Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. (September 4, 2025) – Senior Hannah Anselmo sparked the Stonehill offense with a first-half brace in less than a minute to bring the match level, but Fordham responded with two goals after the break to secure a 4-2 win over the Skyhawks.

Highlights
  • Anselmo's two-goal game marks her first multi-goal game of the season and third of her collegiate career.
  • Junior Annie Renz dished out her first career assist on Anselmo's first goal of the game.
  • First-year goalkeeper Jenna Hamel made her first career start in net where she registered five saves throughout the night.
  • Sophomore Liina Tervo paved the way for the Rams with two goals on the night.
  • First-year student Renata Mercedes added a goal and an assist for Fordham.
  • Senior goalkeeper Kyla King picked up her second win of the season in goal after stopping one of her three shots faced.
How it Happened
Following a back-and-forth opening 15 minutes, Fordham struck first at the 18:51 mark when junior Riley Carroll converted her first goal of the season off a feed from classmate Ava Guidice. The Rams doubled their advantage 10 minutes later as Tervo buried a shot into the top corner from close range off a setup from Mercedes.

Stonehill answered in emphatic fashion late in the half, with Anselmo leveling the match in a stunning 45-second span. Her first tally came at 39:39, finishing a cross from Renz on the far side for her second goal of the year. Moments later, Anselmo capitalized on a defensive miscue, stealing possession from the Rams' backline and slotting home her third goal of the campaign to send the teams into the break tied, 2-2.

Fordham regained the lead just two minutes into the second half, as Tervo converted from the penalty spot to complete her brace. At the 70:31 mark, Mercedes sealed the win for the Rams with a header inside the box off a cross from sophomore Julia Acosta.

Despite Anselmo's heroics and a determined effort to rally, the Skyhawks ultimately came up short on the road, falling 4-2 in the non-conference matchup.
