TOWSON, Md. – The Stonehill volleyball team dropped the first set of the Towson-Morgan State Invitational, 3-0, against host Towson early Friday afternoon.
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
- Freshman Samantha Loyd came two kills shy of a double-double tallying 10 digs and eight kills.
- Freshman Kendra Sawyer paced the offence with 11 assists, while fellow freshman Suzie Ponce notched 11 digs in the back row.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers jumped out to an early 1-0 match lead, taking the first set, 25-14. The Skyhawks remained resilient and came out strong in the second set, taking a 7-6 lead. However, Town responded with a 5-0 run to put themselves in front, 12-7, and never looked back to take a two-match lead.
The third set was tight as the two teams battled evenly in the early moments. But with the match at five, the Tigers pulled away taking advantage of a pair of Skyhawk miscues, forcing Head Coach
Craig Martin to call his first timeout. It as a momentum shifter for Tigers as they continued to prove victorious in the first set, 25-11.
