HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half belong to the Skyhawks as they set the tone, opening the game with a 10-2 run. Senior guard
Rex Sunderland got the offense started connecting with sophomore guard
Hermann Koffi at the perimeter for the first three points of the game.
Stonehill did not let up and kept their foot on the accelerator. Seeing the court well, Sunderland found a wide open senior forward
Ethan Meuser under the hoop of a quick two. The Skyhawks continue to make it look easy with terrific ball movement in the first half and fended off a late Cougar comeback to lead at the break, 35-33.
Chicago State adjusted at halftime and momentum started to favor the Cougars. The Cougars appeared they were going to pick up their first conference win, but with seconds remaining sophomore guard
Hermann Koffi was sent to the charity stripe for a pair of free throws. Down two, Koffi knocked down the two free points and were headed to overtime.
The five-minute overtime period gave the Skyhawks new life. Stonehill took the early lead on a pair of free throws, but Chicago State answered and took an 82-81 with a minute to play. However, senior guard
Chas Stinson put the Skyhawks on his back, driving through the paint for lay-up then converted the three-point play knocking down the free throw to take an 84-82 lead and sealed the win.
