How It Happened
After a back-and-forth start to the opening frame, Stonehill struck first at the 12:20 mark of the first period. Melady won a board battle and found Chambers skating into the offensive zone, who then fed the puck across to Hunter. Hunter capitalized on a loose rebound and buried his second goal of the season. The lead was short-lived, however, as just over a minute later LIU responded when Sixten Jennersjö netted the equalizer for his sixth goal of the year.
Stonehill quickly regained the advantage early in the second stanza. Just 3:11 into the period, Hunter and Mexico skated into the offensive zone on a two-on-none following an up-ice feed from Banquier. Mexico finished the play, lighting the lamp for his fourth goal of the campaign.
In a second period that featured five total power-play opportunities, including a of 5-on-3 advantages for the Skyhawks, LIU tied the game once again at the 12:43 mark. Anthony Lucarelli buried a one-timer to send the contest into the second intermission deadlocked at two.
In the waning minutes of regulation, LIU grabbed its first lead of the night when Noah Serdachny scored his seventh goal of the season. Despite outshooting the Sharks 14–9 in the third period, earning its second 5-on-3 advantage of the game, and pulling the goaltender late, Stonehill was unable to find the equalizer and fell by a final score of 3–2.
