How It Happened
Lindenwood wasted little time regaining its offensive momentum from the night prior, opening a 2–0 lead over the Skyhawks within the first 5:35 of the contest. After being outshot 14–4 over the opening 10 minutes of regulation, Stonehill and Lindenwood settled into a back-and-forth battle over the final 10 minutes of the first period, allowing the Skyhawks to remain within two heading into the second.
Stonehill came out of the gates strong in the second period, peppering the Lions' defense with 11 shot attempts over the first seven minutes of the frame while also earning its first power-play opportunity of the game. However, Lindenwood netminder Klayton Knapp and the Lions' penalty-kill unit stood tall, stifling the Skyhawks' push and preserving the two-goal advantage. Lindenwood would then tack on two additional goals over the remainder of the period, as Anselmo Rego scored at the 9:32 mark and Jake Southgate added a late tally at 19:41, sending the Skyhawks into the third trailing 4–0.
Just 1:35 into the third period, Olivier Houde capped off the scoring for Lindenwood, extending the Lions' advantage to five with his seventh goal of the season. Thirty-five seconds later, following a neutral-zone turnover, Melady and Murphy connected with Gutwirth, who was left wide open at the near-side dot and fired a shot past Knapp to record the first goal of his collegiate career. However, Lindenwood's lead was too much to overcome and Stonehill fell by a final score of 5–1.
