How It Happened
Following a back-and-forth opening nine minutes of play, Stonehill struck first on the power play at the 9:39 mark of the first period. Galante skated behind the net and found Lehtinen at the top of the crease, where he redirected the feed into the back of the cage for his third goal of the season. Less than two minutes later, Brown responded to even the score at 1–1, as Ivan Zadvernyuk notched his fourth goal of the year at 11:30 of the frame.
After a scoreless second period in which Brown held a 14–9 edge in shots on goal, the Skyhawks regained the lead midway through the third period. At the 11:30 mark, Romer collected a feed from Lehtinen and Campione and ripped home his ninth goal of the season to give Stonehill a 2–1 advantage. Brown answered just under three minutes later, however, as Zadvernyuk buried his second goal of the night to knot the game at two apiece.
With regulation ending in a 2–2 tie, the two sides headed to a five-minute 3-on-3 overtime period in search of a winner. In the opening minute, Androlewicz turned aside a pair of quality chances from Charlie Gollob and Zadvernyuk, who was seeking the hat trick, to keep the Skyhawks alive. At the 2:09 mark of overtime, Stonehill capitalized, as Ireland found Orr for a one-timer that beat Tyler Shea in net for the game-winning goal—his fourth overtime winner over the past two seasons.
