Orr Scores Twice, Skyhawks Fall in Overtime at Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. (January 30, 2026) – The Stonehill College men's hockey team suffered a heartbreaking 3–2 overtime loss to Vermont on Friday night at Gutterson Field House. With the result, the Skyhawks slipped to 5–17–2 overall, while the Catamounts improved to 10–14–0 on the season.

Highlights
  • Graduate student Evan Orr led the Skyhawks offensively with two goals, marking his second career multi-goal game. His first came against Merrimack on Nov. 12, 2024.
  • Senior Teddy Lagerbäck and junior Matthew Romer each recorded two assists.
  • Sophomore Billy Renfrew blocked a game-high three shots, while classmate Joel Lehtinen won a team-best 11 faceoffs.
  • Graduate student Connor Androlewicz made 25 saves between the pipes and moved within 24 saves of reaching 1,500 for his career.

How It Happened
Locked in a physical, back-and-forth battle throughout the opening period, Stonehill struck first in the waning minutes when Lagerbäck sent a cross-ice shot off the boards that was retrieved by Romer, who found Orr in the slot for a one-timer. Orr buried his fourth goal of the season to send the Skyhawks into the first intermission with a 1–0 lead.

Vermont ramped up the pressure in the second period, peppering Androlewicz and the Stonehill defense with 20 shot attempts over the opening 10 minutes. The Catamounts eventually broke through at the 10:24 mark when Ethan Burroughs netted his second goal of the season to knot the game at one. Later in the stanza, Stonehill drew a penalty and headed to its third power play of the night, which carried over into the final frame of regulation.

Despite opening the third period with the carryover power play and earning its fourth man-advantage opportunity just five minutes into the frame, Stonehill was held scoreless as Vermont's penalty kill kept the game even. However, following the conclusion of the Skyhawks' five-minute power play, Orr pounced on a loose puck in the slot and snapped home his second goal of the contest at the 10:58 mark to put Stonehill back in front.

Vermont answered once again at 17:40 of the third period when Max Strand lit the lamp for his fourth goal of the campaign, forcing five minutes of 3-on-3 overtime. Just over a minute into the extra frame, Massimo Lombardi forced a Stonehill turnover and found Colin Kessler, who buried the overtime winner to complete the Catamounts' comeback victory.
