Men's Basketball Stunned by Saint Francis

LORETTO, Pa. (Jan. 19, 2026) – The Stonehill men's basketball team fell to Saint Francis, 63-61, on a Red Flash buzzer beater in a MLK Day matinee.

STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
  • Senior guard Chas Stinson led the Skyhawks with 19 points and was nearly perfect from the free throw line knocking down 7-of-8.
  • Stinson also dished out a pair of assists, while registered six rebounds and two blocks.
  • Sophomore guard Hermann Koffi followed up with 18 points
  • Junior center Ridvan Tutic pulled down nine boards.
  • The Skyhawks shot 61.1% from the floor in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Skyhawks set the tone early. Sophomore guard Hermann Koffi found senior guard Rex Sunderland for a corner three to cap a 9-3 run and take a 15-12 lead. Saint Francis managed to stay close, but Stonehill maintained their edge taking a five-point, 25-20 lead into the break.

Returning to the court at the start of the second period, the Skyhawks kept up their momentum, building their lead to seven with a driving layup by senior guard Chas Stinson.

They lead by as many as nine in second half as they were firing on all cylinders midway through the half. Stinson ripped a defensive board out of the air then found a wide-open sophomore guard Hermann Koffi under the basket for the fast break three that extended the lead to 42-33.

But Saint Francis was not going away and kept themselves within two possessions for the remainder of the game. It paid off as they knocked down a three with a minute to go to tie up the score at 58.

The Red Flash took a two-point lead with 16 seconds left, but the Skyhawks answered on their next possession. Koffi drained clutch three from in front of his own bench to take a 61-60 lead, but it was short-lived as at the other end of the floor Ahmad Harrison launched a last second deep three to earn their third NEC win.
