NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Jan. 2, 2026) – The Stonehill women's basketball team opened conference play Friday night, falling at New Haven by a score of 66-61 in the first NEC contest of the season.
Stonehill moves to 4-8 overall (0-1 NEC), while New Haven goes to 3-9 (1-0 NEC).
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS:
- Stonehill went 9-of-22 from beyond the arc, as Emma Arcà, Phoena Dadson and Brook Paquette each hit two three-pointers. Dadson also made a career-high four steals.
- Paquette paced the Skyhawks with 15 points.
- Julia Webster, who has reached double figures in scoring in five-straight games, tallied 10 points, to go along with five rebounds and a career-high four assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the first quarter,
Emma Arcà drilled two three-pointers, and
Rissi Smith added a triple of her own, as the Skyhawks drained 3-of-8 shots from beyond the arc in the opening stanza to take a 17-13 lead.
Stonehill upped its advantage to 33-25 heading into halftime, as
Brooke Paquette drained a jumper in the lane to beat the buzzer, giving the Skyhawks an 8-0 run to close the second quarter.
The Chargers outscored the Skyhawks, 25-6, in the third quarter to carry a 50-39 advantage into the final stanza. Stonehill responded with a 13-0 run in the fourth to cut the deficit to 61-59 with 2:57 to play when Paquette drained another three-pointer. With 1:00 remaining,
Julia Webster knocked down a jumper to tie the game, 61-61, but New Haven responded to close out the game, 66-61.

Stonehill (4-8, 0-1 NEC) will return to Merkert Gymnasium to host Wagner (4-7, 0-0 NEC) on Sunday, Jan. 4 at 2 p.m.
