EASTON, Mass. (Jan. 4, 2026) – The Stonehill women's basketball team dropped its NEC home opener to Wagner by a score of 62-59 at Merkert Gymnasium Sunday afternoon.
The Skyhawks slip to 4-9 overall and 0-2 in the NEC, while the Seahawks go to 6-7 and 2-0 in league play.
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS:
- Brooke Paquette went 8-of-8 from the free-throw line in the first half and finished with a season-high 21 points.
- Amaya Dowdy tallied 10 points, a season-best, and grabbed three rebounds.
- Breana Delaney added 10 points and dished out three assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the first half, Wagner grabbed a 21-16 lead after the first quarter, as the Seahawks shot 64.3 percent from the field in the opening stanza.
Brooke Paquette, converted all eight of her foul shots in the first half and led all players with eight points, but the Skyhawks trailed, 33-25, through 20 minutes of action.
Stonehill outscored Wagner, 10-8, in the third and headed to the fourth quarter trailing by only six, 41-35. After
Amaya Dowdy hit a layup with 7:54 remaining, the Skyhawks got within two, 43-41. Moments later,
Phoena Dadson converted an and-one to put Stonehill on top, 46-45, at the 6:45 mark, and then Brooke Delaney hit a jumper on the break to up the Skyhawks' advantage to 53-47 with 3:47 to play.
In the final seconds, Paquette drilled a trey with 42 seconds left to make it 58-54 in favor of Stonehill, but the Seahawks crawled back to tie the game with 29 seconds remaining, before ultimately taking the lead for good in the waning moments.

Stonehill (4-9, 0-2 NEC) will remain at home to welcome Central Connecticut State (0-13, 0-2 NEC) on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 6 p.m.
