Women's Hockey Drops Game One at No. 9 Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. (January 2, 2026) – The Stonehill College women's hockey team dropped its opening game of a two-game set at nationally ranked No. 9 Princeton, 8-1, Friday night at the Hobey Baker Rink. With the result, the Skyhawks dropped to 8-10-1 overall, while the Tigers improved to 12-4-0 on the year.

Highlights
  • Senior Bailey Feeney scored the lone goal for the Skyhawks, marking her third of the season and 28th of her career.
  • Sophomore netminder Alexsa Caron turned aside 55 shots on the night, marking her first game of the year and fifth of her career making at least 50 saves.
  • Stonehill as a team blocked 12 shots, with sophomore Reagan Whynot paving the way with three, while seniors Hannah Squires and Maddi Achtyl each tallied two blocked shots.
  • First-year center Payton Palsa registered a team-high 11 faceoff wins for the Skyhawks.

How It Happened
Princeton came out of the gates strong, outshooting Stonehill 11–1 over the first 10 minutes of regulation. However, the Skyhawks' defense and Caron were up to the task early, denying several quality opportunities until the 11:41 mark of the opening frame, when Mackenzie Alexander capitalized on a turnover in the Skyhawks' defensive end to net her 13th goal of the season.

The Tigers doubled their lead at the 15:54 mark of the first period as a shot from Issy Wunder trickled over the goal line behind Caron. Moments later, Stonehill nearly cut the deficit in half when a point shot from senior Sydney Russell was deflected off the pipe by junior Peyton Wise.

Just 4:13 into the second period, Feeney applied pressure along the blue line, forcing a turnover that led to a partial breakaway. She finished through the five-hole for her third goal of the season, trimming Princeton's lead to 2–1.

Princeton regained its two-goal advantage with just over seven minutes remaining in the second stanza, as Jane Kuehl pounced on a rebound just outside the crease and buried a shot into a wide-open net for her fifth goal of the year.

In the final frame, the Tigers added five more goals, including two from Kuehl to complete her hat trick. Goals from Megan Healy, Ellie Diamatos, and Alexander put the contest out of reach, as the Skyhawks fell by a final score of 8–1.
