Men's Basketball Overcomes 10-point First Half Deficit to Knock Off FDU

EASTON, Mass. (Jan. 29, 2026) – The Stonehill men's basketball team overcame a 10-point deficit in the first half to defeat FDU, 58-57, on Thursday evening.

STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sophomore guard Hermann Koffi registered 21 points, including 18 in the first half.
  • Junior guard Davante Hackett finished with 12 points of the bench for the Skyhawks.
  • Senior guard Chas Stinson rounded out the trio in double figures with 12 points.
  • Junior center Ridvan Tutic and graduate student Raymond Espinal-Guzman dominated the post with Tutic pulling down 10 boards and Espinal-Guzman adding two blocks.
  • Head Coach Chris Kraus moved into a tie for second place, tying Raymond Pepin with 171 wins, amongst the program's all-time wins.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FDU built themselves a 10-point lead quickly in the early minutes of the first half but the Skyhawks were able to quiet a hot Knight offense. Graduate student Raymond Espinal-Guzman rejected a lay-up by Arthur Cox at one end of the floor that turned into a quick three by sophomore guard Hermann Koffi at the other end.

Momentum shifted over to the Skyhawk bench. Just before the last media timeout of the first half, senior forward Ethan Meuser stuffed Cox then moments later hit an outside three to give Stonehill it's first lead since the opening minute.

The Skyhawks took a 31-23 lead into the locker room and when they returned at the start of the second half they continued to pour it on the Knights. Junior center Ridvan Tutic extended the Stonehill lead to 12 with a dunk four minutes in.

FDU continued to hang around, coming back to take a four-point lead with two minutes to play. But Koffi answered with a clutch three to pull the Skyhawks to within one, 57-56, with a minute left in the contest.

Trailing by one with 17 seconds left, junior guard Dante Hackett was fouled driving to the basket and knocked down a pair of clutch free throws to put the Skyhawks back up by one and defensively fend off the Knights for their eighth win of the season.
