Men's Hockey Earns Shootout Win After 3-3 Battle at St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. (January 3, 2026) – The Stonehill College men's hockey team battled St. Lawrence to a 3-3 draw through regulation and overtime before prevailing, 1-0 in the shootout. With the result, the Skyhawks improved to 4-13-2 overall, while the Saints moved to 2-16-2 on the season.

Highlights
How It Happened
Stonehill wasted no time opening the scoring, as just 77 seconds into the contest Rafalski fired home a shot off a cross-ice feed from Galante for the first goal of his collegiate career. The Skyhawks continued to pressure the Saints throughout the remainder of the opening frame, outshooting St. Lawrence 17–7 over the first 20 minutes of regulation. However, Colin Winn and the Saints' defense held firm to keep the score 1–0 heading into the first intermission.

Gunnar Thoreson evened the score at one apiece six minutes into the second period with his fourth goal of the season, before Murphy quickly responded at the 7:17 mark of the middle frame to restore Stonehill's one-goal advantage.

At the 11:02 and 17:50 marks of the second period, St. Lawrence pulled even and then grabbed its first lead of the contest, as Sam Frandina and Jake Lammens lit the lamp for their respective second and first goals of the campaign.

Following an early power-play opportunity to open the third period, Stonehill answered at the 3:34 mark when Grainda capitalized on a rebound during a clean break into the offensive zone, burying his second goal of the weekend and fourth of the season to knot the game at three.

After the teams skated through an even remainder of the third period, the Skyhawks took a late penalty, giving the Saints a 4-on-3 advantage to open overtime. Despite the extra skater, Stonehill's penalty-kill unit stood tall to keep the game tied and force a deciding shootout.

In the shootout, Androlewicz turned aside every attempt he faced, while junior Matthew Romer went top shelf in the second round to secure the shootout victory for the Skyhawks.
