WEST POINT, N.Y. (January 31, 2026) – The Stonehill College men's tennis team came up short against NEC foe Long Island University, falling 4-3 Saturday afternoon at the Lichtenburg Tennis Center in West Point, N.Y. With the loss, the Skyhawks moved to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play, while the Sharks improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in NEC action.
Stonehill secured the doubles point by taking two of three matches. Junior
Alessandro Munoz and sophomore
Guillermo Bennaton earned a default win at No. 3 doubles, before junior
Jacob Borch-Nielsen and sophomore
Hector Cebrian clinched the point with a 6-4 victory over LIU's Bassil Touban and James Vincent on the No. 1 court.
In singles play, the Skyhawks picked up two points via default at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, with wins awarded to Cebrian and sophomore
Nicolas Arredondo, respectively. However, LIU swept the remaining four singles matches to claim the overall match victory.
At the No. 1 and No. 4 singles positions, Bennaton and freshman
Benjamin Beaudry each pushed their opponents to three sets, but Touban and Victor Sjostrom ultimately prevailed to help secure the win for the Sharks.
