Skyhawks Rally Past Northern Michigan for Thrilling Overtime Victory

MARQUETTE, Mich. (October 17, 2026) – The Stonehill College men's hockey team earned a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over Northern Michigan University on Saturday night at the Berry Events Center. With the win, the Skyhawks improved to 3-1 overall to open the season, while the Wildcats fell to 2-4.

Highlights
How it Happened
Stonehill came out of the gates strong, registering eight shot attempts to Northern Michigan's zero over the opening seven minutes of play. Despite the Skyhawks' early pressure, the Wildcats struck first at the 11:17 mark of the opening frame when Nik Gudmundson found the back of the net off assists from Mihael Burchill and Owen Pitters.

Less than two minutes later, at the 13:03 mark, Fitzpatrick capitalized on a perfectly placed pass from Drury in front of the net, burying his first collegiate goal to even the score at one.

Following a scoreless second and third period, which saw Northern Michigan hold a narrow 11-10 edge in shots on goal, the Skyhawks controlled possession during the five-minute, three-on-three overtime period.

At the 3:07 mark of the extra frame, Lepper sent a pass into the neutral zone to Melady, who found Galante skating into the offensive zone. Galante deked through the Wildcats' defense before wristing a shot past the Wildcats' netminder to secure the 2-1 overtime victory for Stonehill.
