Women’s Lacrosse Cruises Past Rhode Island, 12-9

EASTON, Mass. (Feb. 18, 2026) – The Stonehill women's lacrosse team surrendered only two goals in the second half to pulled away for a 12-9 victory over Rhode Island at W.B. Mason Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

The Skyhawks improve to 1-2 overall on the season (0-0 NEC), while the Rams slip to 1-3 (0-0 A10).

STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS: HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the first, Stonehill led, 3-2, when Grace Murphy found the back of the net with an unassisted score at the 6:05 mark. After the game headed to the second quarter tied, 3-3, the Skyhawks went back ahead with scores by Meaghan Fealy and Murphy to make it, 5-4, in favor of Stonehill.

With the Skyhawks leading, 6-5, in the final minutes of the first half, Murphy tallied her fourth score of the afternoon, giving Stonehill a two-goal edge, but the Rams responded with two late goals to tie the game going into the break.

Stonehill scored the only goals of the third quarter, coming by Gouveia and Neave Bowman, who scored off a free-position attempt, to make it 9-7 in favor of the Skyhawks with 2:52 remaining in the frame.
 

In the final quarter of play, Natalie Coutu put Stonehill back up by two, 10-8, with an unassisted score with 7:51 to go. Gouveia capped her hat trick with her third goal of the afternoon at the 4:57 mark, making it a 11-9 contest.

Stonehill (1-2, 0-0 NEC) will remain home to welcome Merrimack (0-3, 0-0 MAAC) Saturday, Feb. 21 at 11:30 a.m.
