Baseball Drops Heartbreaker at FGCU, 4-3

FORT MYERS, Fla. (February 21, 2026) – The Stonehill College baseball team came up just short in game two of its three-game series at Florida Gulf Coast University Saturday night, falling 4-3. With the loss, the Skyhawks slip to 0-6 overall, while the Eagles remain unbeaten at 6-0 to open the season.

Highlights
  • Junior Ryan LeClair and graduate student Sam Parks paced the Skyhawks at the plate, combining to go 4-for-6 with two runs scored, one RBI, a walk, and a double.
  • Junior Eisig Chin notched his team-leading second double of the season and drove in his fifth RBI.
  • Freshman Armanis Romero and LeClair were perfect on the base paths, each going 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts.
  • Senior Jimmy Gilleran made the start and kept FGCU off the board, allowing just one hit over 4.0 shutout innings while striking out two.
  • Sophomore Hunter Bell added 3.1 innings of relief, recording two strikeouts out of the bullpen.

How It Happened
After two scoreless innings to open the contest, Stonehill struck first in the top of the third, pushing across a pair of runs to take control. Romero ignited the rally, hustling to second on a throwing error by FGCU starter Chris Diaz. A flyout to right from junior Will Christopher moved him to third, and LeClair drew a five-pitch walk to put runners on the corners with two outs.

With Parks at the plate, LeClair broke for second, drawing a throw and allowing Romero to sprint home with the game's first run. Two pitches later, and with two strikes in the count, Parks lined an RBI single into right field to score LeClair from second and give the Skyhawks a 2-0 edge.

FGCU cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the fifth on a solo swing by Embury, but Stonehill answered right back in the sixth. LeClair led off with a double down the left field line and later came around to score when Chin roped a two-bagger into the left-center gap, restoring a two-run cushion at 3-1.

The Eagles responded again in the seventh, trimming the lead to 3-2 on a Javier Gorostola groundout that allowed Evan Dempsey to cross the plate. Stonehill threatened in the eighth with two runners in scoring position but was unable to add insurance.

In the bottom half, FGCU capitalized to take its first lead of the night and shut the door in the ninth, handing the Skyhawks a narrow 4-3 setback.
