Late Push Falls Shorts as Skyhawks Drop 14-7 Decision at FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla. (February 22, 2026) – The Stonehill College baseball team rounded out its three-game series at Florida Gulf Coast University Sunday afternoon with a 14-7 defeat. With the loss, the Skyhawks fell to 0-7 overall, while the Eagles improved to 7-0 to start the season.

Highlights
  • Senior Sean McGee led the Skyhawks offensively, posting the team's first three-hit game of the season after going 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and an extra-base hit.
  • Junior Cam Morrison recorded his third career multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
  • Junior Ryan LeClair extended his hitting streak to three straight games, while graduate student Sam Parks tallied a hit in his second consecutive contest.
  • Freshman Jackson Enders notched his first collegiate hit, and juniors Nathan Kearney and John Bureau combined to go 2-for-4 off the bench against FGCU.
  • On the mound, freshman Noah Durham and sophomore Jack Welsch tied for the team lead with two strikeouts apiece.

How It Happened
FGCU wasted little time seizing momentum, as back-to-back solo home runs from Evan Dempsey and Jon Embury opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Following the early power surge, Stonehill answered in the top of the second to even the score. An RBI single up the middle by McGee plated sophomore Will Newton from second, and two batters later, an Eagles fielding miscue allowed McGee to race home with the tying run.

FGCU reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the second on a Tyler Herb sacrifice fly that brought home Cole Lasher, who had drawn a walk earlier in the frame and advanced to third on a double down the left field line by Cayden Hessemyer. The Eagles added three more runs in the third when Jaret Nelson launched a three-run homer over the left-center field wall to stretch the advantage.

Stonehill trimmed the deficit to four in the fourth as freshman Armanis Romero drove in McGee with an RBI single to center. However, FGCU responded once again, as Embury connected for his second home run of the game with a two-run shot to deep center.

The Skyhawks mounted a late push over their final three at-bats, plating four runs across the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings. The rally was highlighted by an RBI single from LeClair, a two-run single off the bat of Morrison, and a bases-loaded walk drawn by sophomore Brayden Rader in the ninth. Despite the effort, FGCU countered with six runs during that same stretch to pull away, handing Stonehill a 14-7 setback.
