How It Happened
Following two scoreless innings to open the game — during which Stonehill starter Gilleran and VMI's Peyton Dhein combined to strike out five — the Skyhawks broke through in the top of the third with one swing of the bat. After Parks lined his first double of the season into right field, McGee stepped to the plate and launched a two-run homer over the left-centerfield wall to give Stonehill a 2-0 advantage.
VMI answered in the bottom of the fifth, plating three runs to take their first lead of the game. A sacrifice fly from Max Perry and a two-run blast by Cole Cook highlighted the inning and put VMI in front. The Keydets added two more runs in the sixth and three in the seventh, stretching their lead to six entering the eighth inning.
After VMI extended its advantage, the Skyhawks were unable to chip away at the deficit, ultimately falling by a final score of 8-2.
