Lehtinen’s Hat Trick Leads Men's Hockey to Dominant 9-3 Win Over Simon Fraser

BOSTON, Mass. (February 27, 2026) – The Stonehill College men's hockey team skated to a dominant 9-3 victory over Simon Fraser University Friday night at Warrior Ice Arena. With the result, the Skyhawks improved to 10-21-2 overall, while the Red Leafs fell to 4-12-2 on the year.

Highlights
How It Happened
After an evenly contested start, Simon Fraser broke the deadlock at 13:33 when Zac Maxwell scored off an assist from Austin Fraser. Stonehill responded quickly, posting two goals within 61 seconds at 17:12 and 18:13. Mexico tied the game at 1-1 before Lehtinen scored the first of three goals on the night, giving the Skyhawks a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

The Red Leafs quickly evened the score again at 3:42 into the second period when Greye Rampton found the net off assists from Fraser and Nicco Camazzola. Stonehill regained the lead within two minutes. On a two-on-one rush, Banquier fed Ireland, who scored his third goal of the season and first since Stonehill's January 2 win over St. Lawrence.

Stonehill then pulled away in the middle frame, building a 5-2 advantage with back-to-back goals from Renfrew and Chambers at 16:00 and 17:02. Renfrew scored on an open net in front of the Red Leafs' crease during a power play, while Chambers' sharp-angle finish to the top corner marked his second goal of the season.

Early in the third, Stonehill and Simon Fraser exchanged goals within 15 seconds. Ridge Dawson scored for Simon Fraser at 1:06, only for Lagerbäck to answer at 1:21 with his fifth of the year. Stonehill then put the game out of reach, adding three more goals—Grainda at 9:47 and Lehtinen with two late goals at 14:14 and 19:36—capping his first career hat trick and securing a dominant 9-3 home victory.
