EASTON, Mass. (Feb. 28, 2026) – The Stonehill men's basketball team fell to Mercyhurst, 75-72, in overtime to conclude the regular season on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Skyhawks finish as the fifth seed and will travel to fourth seed Le Moyne on Wednesday, March 4 at 7 p.m.
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
- Senior center Ridvan Tutic registered his fifth double-double of the season tallying 12 points and 15 rebounds.
- Senior guard Chas Stinson led the Skyhawks with 21 points, two shy of his career single-game high.
- Senior forward Ethan Meuser also notched a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
- Senior guard Rex Sunderland dished out five assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Skyhawks offensive momentum carried over at the start as they jump out to an 13-2 lead. Senior guard
Chas Stinson turned a turnover into points with a fast-break lay-up at the other end.
They increased their lead up to 15 leading 21-6 just before the second media timeout and it appeared they were dialed in. However, the Lakers were able to battle their way back to tie up the game going into halftime.
The second half was a back-and-forth battle with the spread never exceeding more than two possessions. Senior forward
Ethan Meuser made a clutch layup with 96 seconds left before senior center
Ridvan Tutic extended the lead to three knocking down a three-pointer. But the Lakers answered with a three of their own to force overtime.
Stonehill began the overtime period strong. Junior guard
Davante Hackett founded a wide open Meuser in the paint for the dunk to put the Skyhawks up three, but Mercyhurst responded and was able to grab the lead with two minutes and never relinquished.
